Shrinkvivor Check-in Week 3

Ugh. I’m up. Not much, but not the direction I was hoping to go.

I know the problem…it’s *always* been my problem, and it’s name is “weekend”. During the week I’m at work where I have a lot of control over what I eat — I bring my breakfast, lunch, and snacks. Sure, there’s a vending machine, but as long as I’ve packed breakfast, lunch, and snacks, I rarely visit it.

Weekends, though, are a whole other story (and I have to include Fridays in there, because I work from home). I can eat anything in the house! Whenever I want, whatever I want, all day long! Yeah. Therein lies the problem. It’s not like we keep a lot of crap in the house, but if I have the choice between an apple and tortilla chips and hummus, I’m going to choose the chips. Every. time.

So, goal for this week is to make better choices over the weekend. The 3 fruits/3 veggies/3 dairy is going fairly well during the week (not hitting every day perfectly, but getting more than I used to and certainly more conscious of what I’m eating). Perhaps the more concrete goal will be to go for a fruit over the weekend at least once, instead of something else.

Oh, and I managed to exercise a few times this week – not huge amounts, but a little more than last week, with a total count of 140 minutes. Goal this week will be to up that by at least a little more.

Shrinkvivor Check-in Week 2

Finally heading in the right direction thanks to my tribe-mates in Tribe Teal Tackling Tons!

How did I do on last week’s goals? The main one was to get in 3 fruits, 3 veggies, and 3 dairy servings each day. I did really well the end of last week on this – I think I only missed a fruit or veggie one day. The weekend, though, as always, was a challenge. Okay…the weekend was an epic fail as far as nutritional eating. I’m getting back on track this week.

I managed to get in some exercise – my weekly workout with the personal trainer, walking on Saturday, and playing on the Wii Fit yesterday. I’d have liked to do more, so that will be a goal for this week.

Oh, the Sisters also had a mini-challenge to avoid fast food. This one is not really an issue for me – I’m vegetarian, so my choices at many of the fast food joints are not exactly abundant. This upcoming week’s challenge is to get at least 7 hours of sleep per night – that’ll be more challenging.

That’s it…my plan is to just keep going.

Shrinkvivor, Baby


Okay, so I disappeared again. I wasn’t ready last time, or I gave up too easy, or something. But I’m back an in Tribe Teal for Shrinkvivor over at The Sisterhood. I’m still having a hard time now and again (Which is hard to deal with, because I keep thinking I should be doing better by now…I can’t judge my emotions, though, just need to deal with them and keep moving forward.) But I think I’m ready to commit to doing better for myself.

I *have* been exercising since the last challenge. Not always as much as I’d like, but more than nothing. In fact, I’ve been going to the personal trainer every week since I started in June. Most weeks I do other work-outs, too — I’ve biked more weekends than not this summer, I’ve tried to get out for walks, and I’ve even pulled out the EA Sports Active and Wii Fit Plus a couple of times. I’d like to get more regular about my exercising, though.

Goals for this challenge:

  • Exercise: continue with the personal trainer; do at least 2 other workouts each week.
  • Eating: Brooke and I are in the same tribe, and have decided that we are *not* going to obsessively track our food – for me that usually turns into a binge-laden rebellion. Instead, we are work on getting in 3 fruits, 3 veggies, and 3 dairy servings each day.

That’s it – simple, right? Ha.

Starting stats? Ugh, I’m now at an overall weight loss of just -13 lbs. (Please don’t compare that to my previous weigh-ins…so not happy about that.)

Shrinkvivor Challenge Final Check-In

So, maybe last week’s gain was mostly due to Mother Natures little monthly gift afterall. I mean, I have been doing better this week – watching what I eat more, eating more fruit, drinking more water – but I don’t know that it was 4lbs better. No matter, I’m happy!

The good news is that I tried to start C25k last week…the bad news is that I’ve injured my heel, so am now out until I can get it feeling better. I wrote a little about that on Monday: Running? Really?. I’m still onboard for the Virtual 5k over at The Sisterhood, but I may be walking it…we’ll see how my heel comes along. (On a positive note, it is feeling better since last Friday, since I’ve been rolling a tennis ball under it and an ice-filled water bottle, so I have some hope.)

Plans for this week include continuing to eat more fruit and drink more water, and going easy on my heel.

Shrinkvivor Challenge Check-In #7

Gawd…I’m up…again. There’s a reason I’m in Exile! (Though, I was actually exiled last week, when I had a pretty good loss…sigh.)

Challenge loss: -2.4 lbs
Overall loss: -23.8 lbs

This is due to vacation and that TOM…though I suspect it’s mostly vacation. (I did check in last week over on Shrinkvivor, and I had a loss…so this gain is even worse than it looks if you look back at my last check-in from week 5).

I’m not going to say much else…I know what I need to do: stop eating bad stuff (or at least limit it), drink more water, eat my fruits and veggies. I’m doing better today (the weigh-in always motivates more fruit in my diet!), and just need to keep it up.

Yup…down and then up. I didn’t check here the past couple weeks (though I have been keeping up on the Sisterhood and with my group on The ‘Hood), and I was down the past two weeks, then up again this week. Ugh. Sorry Tribe Pink Pride…I expect I’ll be on Exile Island soon enough. At least I still get to keep my 25# badge…for now.

I know why, though. I hate that I know when I’m sabotaging myself, and then big-fat-go-and-do-it-anyway. I haven’t been recording what I eat. I haven’t been looking for healthier choices. I haven’t been doing any of the things I should be doing eating-wise.

I have, however, been exercising. Maybe not as much as I’d like, but still getting out there and doing something. Last weekend we even got out on the bikes again for about 28 miles (not continuous – we did about 22.5 miles from our house to the National Harbor, then a few miles back to Alexandria where we caught the Metro home, and then a mile from the Metro station to our house). I haven’t completely kept up with the EA Sports More Workouts 6-week challenge, but I did get in a couple of those last week; plus a few miles on the stationary bike.

So it seems that I’m beginning to at least get the exercise part of this right. I really just need to pay more attention to the food part. Today is the start of another week!

Yay! I’m down a couple pounds, which is way better than what I’ve been doing the past few months. Maybe not as much as I’d been hoping, given the 5-hour, grueling bike ride on Sunday, but I’m not going to complain. The scale is going in the right direction.

This week was pretty good overall. I tracked calories every day except Sunday and Monday. Sunday I wasn’t too worried about calories since I burned nearly 3000 on the bike ride. Plus, it was our anniversary, so I knew there would be some indulgences. Monday, though, I have no excuse. I was tired and sore from Sunday’s ride, and was very hungry much of the day, but I could have at least tracked what I ate, even if I didn’t limit myself. And I made lots of bad choice on Monday.

But, I picked up Tuesday, dusted off, and went back to tracking and making better choices. So that’s something.

This week my goals are to continue doing the EA Sports More Workouts 6-week challenge. I’m behind by a couple of workouts due to the biking this weekend, but I’m going to try to make them up. I’m also going to continue to track what I eat, and try to make sure I get at least 2 fruits and 3 veggies each day. That’s it…small steps, right?

Shrinkvivor Challenge – Week 1

Since last weigh-in: ugh, don’t ask.
Overall: -21.4 lbs

The Shrinking Jeans folks are having another challenge, and boy do I need it. Look at my last entry…yeah, it was in May. My biking has actually been on track all year – and I even succeeded in my quest to do a 50-mile ride (more on that on my non-weight-loss blog: Holy Crap, We did it!!!). My eating, however, has not been on track.

In fact, I have biked nearly 1000 miles since April (between the stationary and real bikes), and have **gained** weight since the end of the last challenge I participated in. So mad at myself.

Here’s the deal, though. I need to stop being mad at myself for something I can’t go back and change. The real question is: what am I going to do about it now? I’m going to join the Shrinkvivor challenge and pay more attention to what I’m putting in my mouth and help Tribe Pink kick some ass.

To that end, I weighed in this morning…I’m up from the end of the last challenge, by a lot. During this 6-week challenge, I’m going to get rid of those pesky pounds, and hopefully a few more.

Goals for the week: Continue the EA Sports Active More Workouts 6-week challenge (I just did workout number 5 last night!); start tracking what I eat. I’m not going to put restrictions on what I eat this week, but I just want to get back in the habit that if it goes in my mouth, it goes in the food journal (on my phone). Often that’s enough to help me eat less crap.
